Dr. Marissa Garcia
DDS, MSc, Dip. Perio, FRCD(C)
is a Certified Specialist in Periodontics and one of the current leaders in comprehensive Periodontal Patient Care. She earned her dental degree from Cayetano Heredia University, Peru in 1998. During the next 2 years, she worked as a general practitioner and concurrently pursued a Diploma in Periodontics in Peru.
Dr. Garcia then moved to Vancouver spending the next 3 years earning two additional postgraduate degrees from the University of British Columbia, namely a Diploma in the Specialty of Periodontics and a Masters in Science. During her studies she was awarded with the prestigious Joseph Tonzetich Scholarship in recognition of her promising research abilities.
She serves the community in various positions, such as her private practice specializing in Implant & Periodontal care in Vancouver and her teaching affiliation with the Faculty of Dentistry at UBC.
Dr. Garcia is the Director of Undergraduate Periodontics at the University of British Columbia and serves the Division of Periodontics as a Clinical Assistant Professor. She is also a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Member of the Canadian Academy of Periodontology, the American Academy of Periodontology and the British Columbia Society of Periodontists.
In 2008, Dr. Garcia was honoured by the American Academy of Periodontology with the “2008 Educator Award” for Outstanding Mentoring & Teaching in Periodontics.
As a wife and mother of two children, she enjoys spending time with her family. When she’s not working at UBC or the Vancouver Implant Perio Centre (VIP Centre) you can find her running in the outdoors or dancing Zumba.
